A U.S. county uses goats to remove fire-prone shrubs

The Californian county of Ventura has decided to use goats to remove fire-prone shrubs in the grounds of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

This decision is part of a series of efforts that are being made to prevent fires (a major problem in California). Thanks to the use of goats, an environmentally friendly technique is being implemented.

The need for prevention is also due to the fact that the growth of flammable vegetation was fuelled by the atmospheric river storms that affected Southern California from December to March.

Thanks to the 'work' of the goats, the fire risk is limited through the removal of dry grass and potentially combustible shrubs, along with non-native plants.

The most affected areas
California is a very fire-prone state during the summer season due to its hot and dry climate. The Californian counties most affected by fires are generally those of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside.
