World Stray Animal Day: in Athens, dogs visit... museums

A beautiful municipal initiative was staged on Palm Sunday, April 2, in Greece's capital, Athens. On this occasion, in fact, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Department of Urban Fauna of the Municipality of Athens, allowed free entry to all four-legged friends.

On the occasion of 'World Stray Animal Day', 2 April, the municipality's initiative aimed to raise awareness about the adoption of stray dogs and the living conditions these animals are forced to endure.

To enter, one had to follow a few very simple rules, before taking a walk among the works of art in the Athenian museum with one's friends. A wonderful initiative, but not the only one around the world.

The Socrates shelter takes care, at its own expense, to help lost animals find their families and strays find new homes, and also tries to ensure that every animal that passes through its doors is treated with love and kindness.

Owners and animals were able to enjoy the exhibition Modern Love (or Love in the Age of Cold Intimacies) together. This event was also made possible thanks to the outstanding work of artistic director Katerina Gregos, who has been in this position for about two years, and who has been committed to promoting this type of pet-friendly visit since she took office.

All dogs were allowed, but owners were only required to follow a few rules: owners had to prove that they were up-to-date with vaccinations, have waste bags, lead dogs on a fixed leash and not bring in females in heat.
